Most scholarships are available to seniors only. A few come along for underclasssmen, at which time I will pass that information on to them. The seniors are given a newsletter periodically that lists the scholarships that have come in to me up to the date of the newsletter. This is a shortened version that just lists the scholarships, but which also includes a variety of other information of interest to them. A complete newsletter giving a summary of the scholarships, including criteria and deadline, is then posted on my website. Some of these will have a website of their own that the student must go to to obtain more information and application. If not, they need to either mark on their newsletter (or give me a list) those scholarships they are interested in and are eligible for. I will then make up a packet for them to pick up at a mutually convenient time.
I also encourage the seniors to go to the EducationQuest office, as they have a computer program that will provide the students with a number of other scholarships that are available. You may also check out their website at www.educationquest.org
Seniors also should check with the post-secondary institutions they have an interest in to find out what scholarships are available and how to go about applying for the same. Additionally, there is a lot of scholarship information now posted on the internet, but I emphasize to the students that THEY SHOULD NEVER PAY A FEE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!!! If they are asked to do so, it very likely could be a scam.
