The chart below is to aid you in making sure your student makes the right choices for classes during high school.  It not only shows what classes are required to graduate from Kearney Catholic High School, but also those required for admission to both UNK and UNL.  Please note that these are not necessarily the same for all post-secondary institutions; students need to do some exploration and find out what the admission requirements are for those institutions other than UNK and UNL.  It is necessary to plan ahead, making sure your student has chosen classes that not only provide the necessary credits to graduate from KCHS, but also whatever high school classes are required for admission to the institution of higher learning of your student's choice.  It is to the student's benefit to do this exploring early on in his or her high school career.

                    KCHS        UNK        UNL

ENGLISH      4yrs.             4yrs.          4yrs.

MATH           3yrs.*          3yrs.       4yrs.*

NATURAL SCI.* 2yrs.       3yrs.          3yrs.

SOCIAL SCI.*    3yrs.       3yrs.          3yrs.

RELIGION          4yrs.

FOREIGN LANG.               2yrs.          2yrs.

For graduation from KCHS, all math classes count.  For UNK & UNL, only upper level math classes count; basic algebra I & II and consumer math are not considered upper level math.  Natural Science classes include physical science, biology, advanced biology, chemistry, and physics.  Social Science classes include geography, American history, world history, psychology, economics, and government.

UNK & UNL require satisfactory completion of the courses listed above.  In addition, students must have a minimum ACT score of 20, an SAT score of 950, or rank in the upper 50% of the class.

You should also be aware that there are course requirements to be met if a student plans to participate in athletics at an NCAA-affiliated institution, and students have to make application to the NCAA Clearinghouse.  For more information, you may go to their website at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

If you have any questions about the above, please do not hesitate to give Mr. Torson, Mr. Rogers, or myself a call.
